What is Black Jade?

While jadeite jade can be solid black, most of the black jade inventory at Mason-Kay Jade is actually nephrite jade. Black jade is extremely dark green jade, which can sometimes be seen with a high powered flashlight.

Black jade can have translucency in spite of being so dark, which can be seen when shining a high powered light through the jade stone. Some black jadeite jades are more opaque, and some are more translucent. The translucent black jadeite jades will glow green when illuminated by a light. Translucent black jadeite jade is more valuable than both opaque black jadeite jade and black nephrite jade.
